铸石的主要性能是：硬度高（莫氏硬度为7～8）；耐磨性好（耐磨系数为0.09～0.14克/厘米2，抗腐蚀性能强，除氢氟酸和热磷酸外，能抗任何酸碱的腐蚀（耐酸性大于96%，耐碱性大于98%）。铸石具有很好的耐腐蚀、耐磨性能，其耐酸碱性可达99%以上，耐磨性比锰钢高5～10倍，比碳素钢高数十倍；其莫氏硬度7～8，仅次于金刚石和刚玉。但其韧性、抗冲击性较差，切削加工困难。

But its toughness and impact resistance are poor, and cutting process is difficult.
